Field Study Tour of the Ending Academic Year students of the Department of Marine Science, Myeik University

Headed by Dr. Cherry Aung, Professor (Department Head), teachers and students from first year to second-year honors, courses specialized in marine science, a total of (102) from the Department of Marine Science, Myeik University visited the Myanmar Atlantic Company Limited, Pearl Banner Camp on (1.10.2023), to learn information about marine science and marine natural re-sources. The Study Tour Team was welcomed by the Farm Captain and the staff of the Camp.

After that, Chief Operating Officer U Si Thu met the expedition team at the Pearl Banner Hall and speech, title of “Pearl Jewels, Pearl oysters and Myanmar South Sea pearl production”, explained with a presentation of pearls and oysters knowledge, stages of oyster breeding and pearl production, how to relate between ecology and pearl farming, the company cooperates with Myeik University’s Department of Marine Science to support research and scholarship, the internship program and research papers. And then, to help the students in preparing their papers, the papers with the title “The South Sea Pearl of Myanmar” were presented as a reference. Next, Dr. Cherry Aung, Professor (Department Head) of the Department of Marine Science, introduced the “Knowledge Sharing Program on Marine Resources” and gave a speech of thanks.

After that, from (2.10.2023) to (4.10.2023), the team observed the Hatchery and OPT Department and recorded marine biology along the underwater work site and along the beach at Pearl Tower Camp; At the company’s sub-camp, the Thae Hnitt Tan Camp, carrying out collective clean-up activities on and under water and studying oceanography on the beach; Visiting the surrounding villages of the camp, Done Pearl Aww Village and Paraw War Village, studying marine biology at Paraw War Beach and excavating and recording the skeletons of 2 whales buried on the beach; They studied the crab farming and Moken culture in the Paraw War Village area.

On (5.10.2023) during the study tour, and oral examination the teachers/teachers gave evaluation marks and after the journey, they left for Myeik City.
